There are many problems but none more damaging than a basic misunderstanding of why human beings ever evolved.
It is one thing to imagine and speculate about why human beings exist. That can be fun, and it can be a fine discussion. But it can never become a deep inner source of joy. Only reality can deliver the human soul from bewilderment. Such is the realm of true religion (not the stuff that has been passed off to us by priesthoods in their quest to manipulate the masses). A most confusing element of humanity...
The Basics.
To really be human is to be more than a creature of love and hate, peace and war, charity and punishment, pleasure and pain. Being human is being a citizen of the universe that is governed by the flow of divine love. Divine love is the life of eternity and may also be called eternal life. It is not a human emotion, but rather a flow of affection from the Source of all beings; from the Universal Father. It is not something a human being can control, not something we can do. It is only something we can let pass through our core.
People ought not to be expecting to be particularly conscious of the eternal level of reality, and yet most people are conscious of it sufficiently. You are conscious of eternal reality. It is for us the awareness of what really is true and beautiful and good.
Each of us knows when we are being untrue. We each are able to choose whether to be truthful about our own motives at least to ourselves, and we are capable of comparing our motives with the Divine Ideal. We are capable of putting in 100% effort to perfect ourselves physically and mentally. Clearly, this does not involve being lazy, defeatist, or reckless.
Beauty may be defined in popular culture as various things, but as a spiritual expression it is characterised by symmetry or balance and is attractive to the soul of every person. Beauty is musical or melodious rather than abrupt, discordant and irritating.
Goodness is health, vitality, wholeness of body, mind and soul altogether. Goodness is life-engendering like the goodness of rich soil or of clean water. The goodness of generosity, kindness, respectfulness, laughter and so on.
To really be human is to be more than just a clever animal; it is to be a link between spirit and matter. The human mind is capable of experiencing a quality of emotion that other mammal minds are not able to experience. These higher emotions include adoration, gratitude, humour, amazement, joy and indignation. By freely willing to experience the higher emotions rather than the ordinary ones of fear and selfish love, a human being may be like people in heaven are. All emotion follows intent, and intent is what one wills with the heart or core of the mind and body.
